Help please, can't get my Topping E30 ii into pure DAC mode

Hi guys, would appreciate any help.

I have a Wiim mini connected via optical to my Topping, which in turn is connected to my active speakers.

Even though I have selected Dac mode in the topping menu, and saved the changes, the screen appears to be indicating that it is still in preamp mode (PRC).
This is on the screen while playing music.

I'm very confused, maybe someone can help.

So what happens? You get into setup mode, then push volume down to get to the Output Mode setting, then press the left/right buttons to get m-d displayed, then press Select button to save the setting. Is that what you did? If so, then what happened?

Are you sure the pure DAC mode isn't strictly a DSD thing?

IIUC, DAC Mode just disables the digital volume control in the dac chip, and puts DSD operation into volume bypass mode. That's the way it works with D90. So, yeah, pretty much its for possibly better DSD sound.

The manual says otherwise. From the OP's image it looks like it is in dac mode.

Same for the manual with D90 (it says for DAC Mode its locked at full output volume), but someone checked with Topping to see if they also put DSD into volume bypass mode. The answer was, yes, although Topping didn't say so in the manual.

Thank you for your help. It appears that i misunderstood the user manual (which to my mind was really really really poor, I mean cmon it looks like it was chatgpt translated from Chinese and illustrated by a chicken with brain damage, not what I expected for the otherwise great gear quality and pricetag). In any case, problem solved, thanks!!!!

Though I'm m not quite sure how, I think I solved it by toggling the Wiim settings until I had it send a pure digital signal, unprocessed by its own internal dac.
